DGS COVID-19 Temporary Lab

To increase efficiency and capacity for COVID-19 testing, PerkinElmer, a Massachusettes-based diagnostics company, partnered with the State of California to open the new DGS COVID-19 Temporary Lab in Valencia, CA.

CSI Electrical Contractors, Inc. joined Hensel Phelps to complete this design-build tenant improvement of the 134,287 SF existing industrial building. The facility consists of multiple large rooms with open workspaces, lab equipment, refrigerators and ovens, clean rooms, offices, H-3 storage rooms, and a second-floor mezzanine with administrative spaces to accommodate the 300+ employees working to process tests.

The DGS COVID-19 Temporary Lab had several notable achievements, with the first being that CSI completed our work within a 7-week time frame. Second, given the nature of work performed in the facility, the facility needed a backup generator, usually taking months to acquire. CSI was able to locate, purchase, deliver, and install the permanent backup generator in 2 weeks. Third, CSI installed a completely new electrical distribution system, including UPS, switchgear, and ATSs.
