June 3, 2025 CSI Wins Six Project Awards from Los Angeles County NECA

Recognized projects include an unprecedented stadium project, two school district solar projects, commercial, data center and manufacturing-related work.

CSI Electrical Construction (CSI) earned five 2025 Los Angeles County Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

The awards included five Electrical Excellence Awards (EEA), and a Distinguished Project Award for a wide range of successful projects in many different categories:

  • The Intuit Dome won an EEA – Institutional over $5M category
  • Making upgrades to an active data center won an EEA – Medium to High Voltage over $500K category
  • An Anheuser Busch transformer replacement won an EEA – Medium to High Voltage under $500K category
  • Solar installations at Chaparral Elementary School Las Virgenes School District won an EEA – Solar/PV under 250 kW category
  • Solar installations at Alhambra Unified School District won an EEA – Solar/PV over 250 kW category
  • West Harbor Phase 1-A, A core and shell commercial project, was recognized with a Distinguished Project Award

Lighting and Powering the Intuit Dome

The new home for the Los Angeles Clippers, the Intuit Dome is the most expensive basketball arena ever built. It was a passion project for Clippers owner and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to deliver this “ultimate home court.” The 1.3 million square-foot facility incorporates cutting-edge technology including a double-sided oval screen called the “halo board.”

CSI was responsible for construction and installation of electrical power, lighting, lighting controls and life safety systems throughout the Intuit Dome arena. Their electrical scope touched nearly every space the fans and athletes experience, from theatrical and sports lighting to public common areas and site lighting. By integrating complex electrical infrastructure with the latest advances in lighting control and life safety technology, CSI played a key role in helping the arena achieve LEED Platinum certification.

Lighting the diagrid alone – an exterior structural steel frame resembling a basketball net – required CSI to install 3,600 light fixtures. The project took exceptional coordination, precision and adherence to safety standards over 30 months of construction.

Project Executive Jason Getty called the Intuit Dome a “once in a lifetime achievement” and a great success for CSI.

Multiple members of the project team also won individual awards from the county NECA chapter during the same awards event including a Mike Sloan Award for Getty, the Dennis Kelly Safety Award for Site Superintendent Jarrod Tiner, and the Terry V. Perkins Safety Award for Site Superintendent Joe Rabelo.

Bringing Solar Power to Multiple School Districts

CSI provided full turnkey EPC services for this solar project at Alhambra Unified School District, self-performing all the electrical design, engineering and construction and managing structural engineering and architecture subcontractors.

The project involved adding nearly 4 MW of solar power across 12 different schools throughout the district on carports or elevated structures. Some of the schools had dated existing electrical infrastructure, making the tie-ins more challenging and sometimes requiring modifications to the existing systems.

CSI provided similar EPC services for the 98.2 kW solar arrays for the Chaparral Elementary School, plus the procurement of solar components. The two arrays were situated in a playground area requiring additional safety efforts to protect students from the construction areas.

Both award-winning projects required extensive coordination and careful scheduling to minimize disruption to students and teachers during construction.

Award-winning Medium Voltage Electrical Work

CSI also earned EEAs for two medium voltage electrical construction projects.

The first was for a confidential data center client needing medium voltage electrical upgrades to an active facility. The project required specialty components with long lead times and the work had to be performed with limited power shutdowns.

When an issue with the manufacturer arose, CSI’s knowledgeable engineering team identified alternative components and worked with the customer to provide a step-by-step plan to install them as a temporary solution so the work could be completed. CSI returned to install the preferred and permanent specialty components once they became available.

The second project, for an Anheuser Busch manufacturing plant, was a small medium voltage project for a critical facility where an aging transformer needed replacing. Outages are limited at manufacturing plants like this one.

During a carefully planned outage window, CSI removed the existing medium voltage cables and transformer to install the new, customer-provided transformer. During the process, they discovered the replacement transformer was leaking – requiring them to reinstall the existing transformer and get the plant back online.

Once another transformer was procured, CSI returned to the site and successfully completed the replacement reinstallation.

Powering A New Waterfront Commercial Area

The final honored CSI project was the West Harbor Phase 1-A project: a core and shell commercial project supporting a new waterfront retail and recreation space in San Pedro, California West Harbor recently announced it was selected to be a designated World Cup Fan Zone in 2026.

The entire project area is built on reclaimed fill dirt along a waterfront, presenting unique challenges for excavation, trenching and installing underground conduit. Special measures were taken to keep the underground conduit dry and free of debris.

CSI installed the main electrical service and two other electrical services designed to support future planned expansions of the waterfront space. They also connected the electrical services to supply power to four new buildings, as well as critical systems including the fire alarm and emergency lighting, lighting controls, and parking lot lighting.
